Blackwater State High School is a school that leverages its commitment to Individual Student Achievement to provide outstanding education to the secondary school students in the Blackwater Community. Our vision is to create excellent educational opportunities in an environment of success that inspires and supports students to achieve their full potential. Recognising that great schools set ambitious goals, track and monitor student achievement and give feedback to students about their progress underpin the vision for the school.
The school is set to capitalise on its focus areas and continue to build internal quality over the coming years. We are currently focusing on High Impact teaching, high expectations for students and building a sense of belonging. It is a great time to be a student, teacher or family associated with Blackwater State High School. Our strong links with the cluster schools has also given us an edge in transitioning Year 6 students into Year 7.
In 2018 our Explicit Improvement Agenda focused on the improvement of writing across Years 7-12. We are achieving this through a cluster approach with the local primary schools. Achieving improvement through targeting the writing skills of students and giving them feedback on how to improve. A focus on reflective practices of our teaching staff is also part of our improvement agenda. Using the Australian Professional Standards for Teaching as a bench mark, we are developing the skills and ability of our teachers to engage and cater for every student in every classroom, every day.
I look forward to working with our school community to create excellent educational opportunities for our students and engage the community in their local high school.
